Pedro Barateiro runs this artist space Spirit Shop (https://spirit-shop.weebly.com/) Spirit Shop is the title of an exhibition Pedro Casqueiro made in 2010. In the 2011 exhibition Grandes Mestres da Literatura Policial, Ana Jotta wrote in Folha de Sala the following: "I've said it a thousand times, I am a revealer, for example like the liquids used to develop photographs; an artist is a servant, not an author, an authority. I reveal what is already there, what is very visible, the nature, the spirit; I show spirit, I make spirit. Obviously. And, obviously, being it so, a gallery would be a spirit shop (21.01-06.03.2010, P. Casqueiro), a buyer a spirit shopper, an artist a spirit maker, and so on, so on, so on." Jotta's exhibition featured a group of paintings made with industrial golden paint and charcoal, some of which were first presented at Kunsthalle Basel for the exhibition Pedro Barateiro: Theatre of ... Hunters. Jotta was invited to share some of her works in the same space Barateiro presented his sculptures. In 2017, after years ruminating the idea, Barateiro finally decides to ask Casqueiro permission to use the title of his show in the production of an object. The object would be a neon sign, first produced and presented in Barateiro's solo exhibition The Opening Monologue at Netwerk Aalst (see images here: https://netwerkaalst.be/en/the-opening-monologue-1). Spirit Shop then becomes a temporary physical space, depending on where the neon sign is, where different activities take place.
