DATOS GENERALES
Descripción de la Organización
Since the first exhibition opened in 1984, the Hunter College Art Galleries have mounted over two hundred shows organized by faculty, staff, alumni of the MA and MFA programs in Art and Art History, and visiting curators often with the assistance of graduate students providing curatorial and research support.
As evidenced by the wide range of subject matter, the Hunter College Art Galleries present exhibitions which represent the interests and diversity of the faculty and student body. Exploring a multitude of periods, media, themes and approaches, the shows support the intellectual pursuits of Hunter College’s academic community.
The Bertha and Karl Leubsdorf Art Gallery located in the west building of the main campus offers a congenial venue for intimate exhibitions within walking distance of major New York City museums. The Hunter College/Times Square Gallery, a 12,000-square-foot space just north of the Chelsea galleries, is often utilized for large survey and retrospective exhibitions as well as the end-of-semester MFA Thesis show. The galleries present eight exhibitions annually, each accompanied by a publication.
