Devised by Frédéric de Goldschmidt and opening in March 2022, Cloud Seven is a seven-storey co-working and exhibition space in the heart of Brussels. Cloud Seven offers a new innovative space to live, work and experience art in an inspired setting that features the collector’s extensive private collection. The inauguration of Cloud Seven follows a special preview of an exhibition inspired by the late artist Alighiero Boetti that presents over 315 works from Frédéric de Goldschmidt’s collection.
Spanning 1,500m2 across seven floors in a building dating to the 1820s, Cloud Seven incorporates co-working spaces, a recording studio, screening room, bar and a fully equipped gym, along with two lofts available for short or long term stays. The rear section, built in the 1920s, houses semi-permanent and temporary exhibitions.
With flexible membership offerings that meet modern-day ways of working, day visitors and Cloud Seven members will be able to work, socialise and relax amongst a curated setting defined by artworks from the Frédéric de Goldschmidt Collection.
Inspiring creative work, expression and collaboration through art, Cloud Seven will exhibit both temporary and permanent exhibitions by historical and world-renowned artists, including a statement piece by the late Lawrence Weiner in the entrance. Fittingly installed in the gym’s wellness centre is Laure Prouvost’s The End of a Dream (2019), a fountain in the shape of a toilet which premiered at the French Pavilion of the 2019 Venice Biennale.
By fusing work and art in such a direct and experiential way, Frédéric de Goldschmidt is highlighting what is possible between two seemingly contrasting areas of life, as he says:
“Cloud Seven’s mission is to be a place where different audiences can come together in a supportive, unassuming atmosphere to share ideas, be stimulated, and feel at home. It is the realisation of my dream to embed the ideas and questions that artists raise into the lives of the city's workforce as they shape the future of our cultural landscape, thoughtfully connecting art with life, and making art more accessible to the public.”
Coinciding with the launch of Cloud Seven is the release of Full House: One Space, Two Shows, 307 Artists, and 400 Pieces from The Frédéric de Goldschmidt Collection, a book published by Mercatorfonds and distributed by Yale University Press. The work details the two exhibitions that have taken place in the building five years apart with contributions by figures such as Nicolas Bourriaud and Dirk Snauwaert.
Cloud Seven will be open from March 2022 and offers both fixed memberships and day passes. The exhibition Inaspettatamentewill run until 30 January 2022.
