Descripción del Artista
Virginia Inés Vergara is a photo-based Chilean-American artist with a studio practice in NYC.
Her work embodies meditations on light, perception and proximity, and investigations into relationships between art and nature. She has exhibited widely in New York and abroad. Her work is included in numerous private European and American collections including The Museum of Modern Art as a promised gift of Leon Black.
She is currently an En Foco photography fellow and has work on display at La Fabricca in Switzerland as well as works in a group shows at Carriage Trade, NY and Longwood Gallery in the Bronx.
She has had solo exhibitions at Robert Miller Gallery, NY, NY (2015, 2016) and Madrid, LA projects (2017). Her work was presented as a solo booth at ARCO Madrid in 2016 curated by Tim Goossens.
Her work has been displayed in group shows in New York and abroad including, Barbara Gladstone Gallery, NY (2018), Magenta Planes, NY (2018), Carriage Trade Gallery, NY NY (2019, 2018, 2017), Interstate Projects, Brooklyn NY (2014).
She participated in the first Uptown Triennial, curated by Deborah Cullen at the Wallach Gallery, NY, NY (2017)
Reviews of her work have appeared in Nueva Luz (2019), Brooklyn Rail (2018), The New Yorker (2018), New York Times (2017), Financial Times (2017), to name a few.
She holds a BFA with honors from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA with honors from Hunter College.
