Descripción del Profesional del arte
Valeria Napoleone is an art collector and patron to a select number of arts organisations. She is a Trustee of the Contemporary Art Society, the Head of the Development Committee at Studio Voltaire, an Advisory Board member of the Association of Women in the Arts in London. In New York, she sits on the Boards of the Institute of Fine Arts (IFA) at NYU, she is a member of the NYU President’s Global Council, and a Gallery Advisory Board member of A.I.R.
Over the last two decades, Napoleone has been amassing work uniquely by women artists, among them Tomma Abts, Ghada Amer, Aleksandra Domanović, Ida Ekblad, Shirin Neshat, and Mai-Thu Perret.
The Italian collector and philanthropist has made buying and backing female artists her central mission. A graduate of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (where she studied art gallery administration), she moved to London from New York with her husband, Gregorio Napoleone, a financier, in 1998. The Kensington townhouse that they share with their three teenage children is filled with bold artwork by women. Overall, her collection now includes some 350 pieces. Over the years, the collection has grown at a steady pace, covering a wide range of media, from sculpture, painting, pottery to video.
Valeria Napoleone XX Contemporary Art Society (VN XX CAS) is a joint initiative of Valeria Napoleone and the Contemporary Art Society. The purpose of the initiative is to support the acquisition of significant works by female artists for Contemporary Art Society museum members across the UK.
