Valentina Locatelli es historiadora de arte y curadora independiente especialista en arte latinoamericano. Locatelli, actualmente es curadora invitada en el Stiftung Brasilea. Anteriormente, ejerció como curadora en el Kunstmuseum Bern (Suiza).
Entre sus próximos proyectos curatoriales está la curadoría de un gran proyecto sobre las escenas artísticas de Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lima y Ciudad de México en la feria Art Paris 2019, que, tendrá lugar del 4 al 7 de abril, en el Grand Palais.
Bio (English)
Valentina Locatelli (b. 1979, Bergamo, Italy) is an independent curator and writer based in Berne, Switzerland. Her research focuses on Italian Renaissance art and 19th century art-connoisseurship, international modern and contemporary art, and Latin American art. She is also interested in the multifaceted matters raised by exhibiting contemporary art in historic contexts.
Most recently she was guest curator of Cybèle Varela: Tropicalismo Remixed for the Brasilea Foundation in Basel (January–June 2018).
Between 2013 and 2017 Locatelli worked at Kunstmuseum Bern, Switzerland, where she curated the following exhibitions: Mexico Mirrored in its Art: Prints, Independence, and Revolution (2013); Open Sesame! Anker, Hodler, Segantini... Masterpieces from the Foundation for Art, Culture and History (2014); Without Restraint: Works by Mexican Women Artists from the Daros Latinamerica Collection (2016). For Kunstmuseum Bern she also co-edited the catalogue of the museum collection (Kunstmuseum Bern: Masterpieces. Hirmer, Munich 2016). Between 2009 and 2012 Valentina worked for Fondation Beyeler, Riesen/Basel, implementing eight publication projects including Basquiat, Surrealism in Paris and Brancusi & Serra.
Valentina holds a Ph.D. in Theory and Text Analysis (Università degli Studi di Bergamo, 2009), a Master of Advanced Studies in Museum Studies (Université de Genève, 2012) and a Master in German and English Studies with a Specialization in Arts (Università degli Studi di Bergamo and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, Munich, 2004).
Her Ph.D. dissertation on the art connoisseur Giovanni Morelli (1816–1891) was published in 2011 (Metamorfosi romantiche: le teorie del Primo Romanticismo tedesco nel pensiero sull’arte di Giovanni Morelli. Campanotto editore, Pasian di Prato, Udine, 2011).
Valentina fluently speaks English, German, French and Italian. She is studying Spanish.
