Guest Curator at Large in the Museum of Latin America Art (MOLAA), in Long Beach (California). Flores will be the curator of Getty Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA exhibition Relational Undercurrents: Contemporary Art of the Caribbean Archipelago (2017 - 2018).
Tatiana Flores is an associate professor in the Departments of Art History and Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. A specialist in Latin American as well as contemporary art, she is the author of Mexico’s Revolutionary Avant-Gardes: From Estridentismo to ¡30-30! (Yale University Press, 2013).
Her second book project, currently in progress, focuses on the art and visual culture of Venezuela during the presidency of Hugo Chávez. Flores received her doctoral degree in Art History from Columbia University and was the Cisneros Visiting Scholar at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Harvard University in 2007-2008.
She has written extensively on the historical avant-gardes and contemporary art of Latin America and is also active as an art critic and independent curator.
Her exhibitions include: Medios y ambientes (Mexico City, 2012), Disillusions: Gendered Visions of the Caribbean and its Diasporas (New York, 2011), and Wrestling with the Image: Caribbean Interventions (Washington, D.C., 2011). She has contributed to Review: Literature and Arts of the Americas, ReVista: The Harvard Review of Latin America, ARC, and Woman’s Art Journal and regularly writes for Art Nexus, where she is an editorial adviser.
