Descripción del Artista
In 2014, after moving to London, I became obsessed with people watching and documenting social behavior in public spaces. Watching crowded places filled with disconnection and isolation. Both as a spectator and as a contributor of common social practices that are influenced by the pursue of the American Dream lifestyle in the Western World, I started using photography as a tool to observe how this kind of mindset permeates our everyday life both in a public context and in a personal one. Our ideas of togetherness and how they find themselves disrupted by a self-centered common character.
Through the use of staged photography, influenced by my documentary photography practice I generate images of fragments that exist both in a fictional way and a real one. Highly influenced by the context that surrounds me, I first got interested in the public relationship between us and others, the lines that separate us sometimes not in a physical way but in a psychological.
After leaving London I became a nomad for almost a year, creating sets everywhere I went, Spain, Israel, California, Portugal. Street casting people and losing any sense of home I had the need to had an introspective use of my practice. Feeling almost vanished, I unconsciously started street casting people that I felt that somehow was also vanishing like me. Seeing how much I reflected myself in others I started adding self-portraits to my body of work.
Contemporary practices such as leisure, consumption, media overstimulation, eternal youth, and the psychological sequels they generate in our everyday private life. The constant need to escape, to always look outside. My characters find themselves almost anonymous, melting in places, vanishing into them, constantly looking for any possibility of escape. They find themselves alone, desperate and exhausted. Constantly in an odd line between trying and feeling defeated.
