Born and raised in rural West Texas, Randy Kennedy lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two children. He is the author of ‘Subwayland: Adventures in the World Beneath New York,’ (2004), based on a weekly column he wrote for several years at The New York Times. His rst novel, ‘Mr. Fool,’ set in Texas in the 1970s, will be published by Simon & Schuster in 2018. Before The New York Times, he worked for American Lawyer magazine.
He has joined to Hauser & Wirth gallery, in April of 2017, as Director of Special Projects. Kennedy was a reporter at The New York Times for 23 years, more than half of those writing about the art world. For the Times and its flagship New York Times Magazine, he authored definitive profiles of such artists as Pipilotti Rist, Paul McCarthy, Peter Nadin, and Alec Soth, and covered art institutions and pathbreaking initiatives in cities across the United States, as well as in Europe, Mexico, and South America. Subjects of his articles over the years have included Bruce Nauman, Isa Genzken, Nan Goldin, Kerry James Marshall, Ida Applebroog, Valie Export, John Chamberlain, Rosemarie Trockel, Rashid Johnson, Vito Acconci, Martha Rosler, Carl Andre, Robert Irwin, Pierre Huyghe, Richard Prince, Doug Wheeler, Sally Mann, Adrián Villar Rojas and Ryan Trecartin.
