Rafael Miyar has had significant involvement in cultural and philanthropic activities of relevance to Miami as he has always believed in the obligation of contributing to the development and well-being of this community. He is a trustee of the Miami Art Museum, a Vice-President of its Executive Committee and a member of its Nominating and Governance Committee, the Acquisition and Collections Committee and Co-Chair of its Development Committee. Mr. Miyar is also active with the International Kids Fund / Jackson Memorial Foundation and a member of the steering committee of its yearly Art Auction, which funds in part the treatment of children with major medical needs. He is also a board member of the New York-based Oscar B. Cintas Foundation that grants fellowships to artists of Cuban lineage residing outside of Cuba and also a founding member of the France-Florida Foundation for the Arts in Miami. Rafael Miyar is an accomplished banking and investment professional with over 35 years experience in marketing and managerial senior positions primarily addressing Latin America. Mr. Miyar began his banking career with Citibank, N.A. in New York in its Overseas Controllers Division. He later moved to Bankers Trust Company (now Deutsche Bank) also in New York, and worked for this institution for 25 years becoming a Managing Director. For nine years, he was Senior Representative in Mexico D.F and was responsible for all business there including correspondent banking, commercial lending and originating investment banking transactions for government agencies and private sector corporations. He returned to the US and became head of the Latin American Private Banking Division based in Miami but with responsibility for the New York and Beverly Hills offices overseeing the delivery of wealth management services to that region. In 1994, he joined Coutts USA Intl., a subsidiary of the London based affiliate of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group and, as Senior Vice President and Marketing Head for the Miami Office, pursued rapid expansion of its business in Latin America until it was acquired by Banco Santander International in 2003. He remained there also as a Senior Vice President and in a similar capacity until early retirement in 2006. At present, Mr. Miyar is an independent consultant. Since 2007, he has been an Advisor to the Board of Safetypay, Inc. a Miami based company that has developed a payment system to energize e-commerce linking Internet purchasers through their banks to domestic and cross-border merchants. The system is undergoing rapid expansion in Latin America and Europe.
