Descripción del Artista
Painter Mimi Lauter builds her canvases up using a technique of layering oil and soft pastel, colored pencil and oil paint in small strokes. Her highly textured surfaces evoke the woven quality of tapestry, various colors and consistencies overlapping to create a jeweled effect. Lauter’s subject matter oscillates between abstraction and figuration, outlines of floral motifs and vague still lifes interspersed with lush color that evokes the luminous palettes of European modernist painters such as Pierre Bonnard and Jean-Édouard Vuillard.
Lauter has been included in numerous group exhibitions including the Riverside Museum, Hayworth Gallery, Los Angeles, Cirrus Gallery, Los Angeles, The Room Gallery, UC Irvine, The Green Gallery, Milwaukee. She has been the recipient of the 2008 Medici Scholarship Award, the 2005 Hans G. and Thordis W. Burkhard Foundation award and the 2004 Elain Krown Klein Scholarship Award.
