Margarida Saraiva is a researcher, curator and educator working in Asia and Europe and in-between arts and cultures. She is the founder and Chief Curator of BABEL – CULTURAL ORGANIZATION. Saraiva is simultaneously Curator and Researcher at the Macau Museum of Art. Saraiva was the Head of Serralves Educational Department from 2011 to 2013, working with institutions as Tate Modern and Louisiana Museum of Art. Before that, Saraiva was the Coordinator of the International Educational Program of the Macau Museum of Art.
Completed the Course Curating the Contemporary by Goldsmith University of London, which takes place at the British School of Rome (Summer). Saraiva holds a Master Degree in European Cultural Planning by De Montfort University, Leicester, UK, a Post Graduation in Cultural Tourism by the European Institute of Macau, attended a Post Graduation in Museum Studies by Oporto University, and she is graduated in History by the same University.
Margarida Saraiva has received international recognition and awards for the quality of Educational Projects, namely: Best Art Teacher by the Beijing Television Group; Best Art Course by the International Youth and Juvenile Art Competition in Évora for courses and works developed at Macau Museum of Art; She was also awarded 2nd Prize at Macau Video Challenges – New Images, Old Contexts by Cultural Institute of Macau. More recently, BABEL - Cultural Organization was nominated the Institution of the Year by Hoje Macau Newspaper, and the Treeplets, a project selected from an international open call for artists, co-curated by Saraiva, Tiago Quadros and José Drummond, has received the "A Design Award - Silver", while the book LINE published by BABEL, and designed by Joaquim Cheong, was awarded the German Design Award.
