Descripción del Profesional del arte
Julia is a doctoral candidate in the department's Center for Latin American Visual Studies. Her research centers on modern and contemporary Latin American art with an emphasis on networks of conceptualism. Her dissertation project, tentatively titled “Working Around: Lea Lublin, Marie Orensanz, Mirtha Dermisache, and Margarita Paksa, 1968-1983,” examines the work of four women artists working in Buenos Aires in the 1970s. A study of relationships, it explores the gendered, affective, and provisional roles of labor and language in articulating not only art practices under a dictatorship but also the very narratives of conceptual art.
Julia is currently a Fulbright scholar in Buenos Aires, where her project is supervised by Dr. Andrea Giunta and the Instituto Interdisciplinario de Estudios de Género at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (IIEGE-UBA). She was previously the Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Latin American Art at the Blanton Museum and has worked at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the National Gallery of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Mary and Leigh Block Museum.
