Bio (English)
Joey Lico is an art and economics consultant living and working in New York City. Lico is The Cultivist's in-house Curator and Director of Programming for the Americas.
She began her career at Phaidon Press as an Editor of the acclaimed Contemporary Artists Series and Wallpaper Travel Guides and most recently served as the Director of External Affairs for the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), where she managed and expanded curatorial, development, and marketing projects, also has worked at Independent Curators International (ICI), where she nurtured a huge variety of projects across all disciplines of art. From 2008-2016, and under the Obama Administration, she worked with The White House as an adviser on their ACT/ART Committee bringing contemporary art into public policy.
She graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University with a BA in Contemporary Philosophy and later studied at NYU’s Gallatin School in the Culture and Economy of Visual Contemporary Art.
Her academic research has been published in several journals such as October and N+1, and was featured in the book The Profitable Artist. She continues to write about contemporary art for The Brooklyn Rail. Joey’s research and expertise in the economy of art has allowed her to teach master classes, seminars, and sit on panel discussions in cultural institutions all over the world, including: Brazil, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. She is an active part of American Ballet Theatre’s Junior Council, the Young Collector’s Council Acquisition Committee at the Guggenheim Museum, NYFA’s Young Patrons Circle Advisory Committee, and Co-Chair of the Executive Committee for the Whitney Museum’s Contemporaries.
