Jan Kiefer (b. 1979 / Trier, Germany) lives and works in Basel (CH). He combines topics of pop culture with traditional craftsmanship in his work. Kiefer’s treatment of materials based on extensive field research lead to conceptual sculptures and installations that deal with ancient and contemporary narrations of human inventions and rituals. Since completing his master’s degree at the Academy of Art and Design in Basel in 2012, Kiefer has exhibited widely, in Switzerland and internationally, including solo exhibitions at Kunsthaus Baselland (2013), Zabriskie Point, Geneva (2016), and Kunstverein Salts, Basel (2017). In 2016 he received the Swiss Art Award.
