US collector, philanthropist and private investor J. Tomilson Hill, who spent more than twenty-five years working at the Blackstone Group, was elected in march 2019 the newest member of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation’s board of trustees. Earlier this year, Hill opened the Hill Art Foundation, a public exhibition and education space that is housed in the twelve-story Peter Marino–designed Getty building in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
A Harvard College and Harvard Business School graduate, Hill was copresident and a CEO of Lehman Brothers from 1990 to 1993, before he joined the Blackstone Group. From 2007 to 2018, he served as Blackstone’s vice chairman. He is currently a member of the board of directors of Lincoln Center Theater, where he is also chairman emeritus, and sits on the investment committee of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC; the advisory board of Christie’s; and on the executive committee and the board of trustees of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
