Performer y comisaria nacida en la República Dominicana, que actualmente reside entre Berlín y Nueva York.
Bio (English)
Isabel Lewis (1981, Santo Domingo) was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Venice, Florida. She studied Dance/Choreography and Literary Criticism at Hollins University (USA) before forming the Labor Union, with Erika Hand, in New York in 2004. In 2009 she moved to Berlin and began working on a collection of notes that would become her solo exhibition, entitled STRANGE ACTION. Important to Lewis's oeuvre are the multiple modalities that comprise her art practice, such as critical and theoretical writing, teaching, and performance.
Drawing from her background in choreography and literary criticism, Lewis uses the occasions to investigate both the role of the artist and the role of the host. Occasions have been presented by the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin, Frieze London, Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, Kunsthalle Basel, Liverpool Biennial, and Tanz Im August Berlin.
