Descripción del Artista
Inês Zenha (b.1995, Portugal) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work divides in a wide range of media: sculpture, ceramics, assemblage-installation and painting.
She graduated at Central Saint Martins, London in 2017 and she has been Paris based since the last couple of years. Her practice rethinks the body of painting as a return to her own experience of the domestic and social body. A body that is in a constant effort to create space for itself, to break its established physical boundaries. A body that is free from representation. Using the support language of materials, of support and of space, she deconstructs and recreates experiences around desire, identity and intimacy. She reinvents the body of painting through an hyper interiority, that opens an alternative discourse to a fixed and forced system representation. Questioning the placement of a body that is both constructed or erased from the structures of support, she proposes another that reclaims space to become other.
Sometimes the wall opens itself, other a window offers escape, opening a door but not yet closing it. From the interior to the exterior of the frame, she collects, deconstructs and rebuilds the interior parts of a house, like the inside of her-selves.
Each object, material, weight, scale, movement, the archetypal gender colours, the fragility and plasticity of folding or the tension of an opening. All these play symbolic roles inside her visual narrative built on feminist and queer aesthetics.
