Daniela Edburg (Houston, Texas, 1975) es una artista visual mejicano estadounidense. Su obra: "Retratos incontenible" fue exhibida en el Museo de Bellas Artes de Boston, "Promontorium Somni"i, en la Casa del Tiempo en la Ciudad de México y "Panorámica / Paisajes 2013-1969" en el Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes de la Ciudad de México. Su obra también ha sido expuesta en el Museo de la Ciudad y el Museo de Arte de la Ciudad de México Carrillo Gil, el Museo de Arte de Guandong en Cantón, China, en el Instituto Europeo de Diseño de Madrid, España, el Itaú Cultural de Sao Paulo, Brasil, Centro Cultural Recoleta en Buenos Aires, Argentina , el Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales de Montevideo, Uruguay, el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Santiago de Chile, el Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Moscú, Rusia y el Centro de Arte Santa Mónica de Barcelona, España. Sus piezas forman parte de importantes colecciones como el Museo de Bellas Artes de Boston, el Museo de Arte de las Américas en Washington, DC, el Museo de Arte Latino Americano de California, así como el Museo Astrup Fearnley en Oslo, Noruega, y el Museo del Quai Branly en París, Francia. Daniela Edburg ha recibido subvenciones del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, el Instituto de Cultura del Estado de Guanajuato y el Museo del Quai Branly de París. Bio (english) DANIELA EDBURG was born in Houston, Texas in 1975 and studied Visual Arts in the San Carlos Academy in Mexico City. Recently her work has been shown in: Uncontainable Portraits at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Promontorium Somnii at Casa del Tiempo in México City and Panorámica / Landscapes 2013-1969 at the Museum of the Palace of Fine Arts in México City. Her work has been exhibited in The City Museum and Carrillo Gil Art Museum in Mexico City, the Guandong Museum of Art in Guangzhou, China, the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid, Spain, the Itaú Cultural of Sao Paulo, Brasil, Recoleta Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, The National Museum of Visual Arts in Montevideo, Uruguay, The National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago de Chile, The National Center for Contemporary Arts of Moscow, Russia and The Santa Mónica Art Center in Barcelona, Spain. Her pieces have been acquired by important collections including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, The Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Latin American Art of California as well as the Astrup Fearnley Museet in Oslo, Norway and the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris, France. She has received grants from the Mexican National Fund for Arts and Culture, the Guanajuato State Cultural Institute and the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris.. Her work has been shown in Photoquai, 2nd Biennale of Images of the World in Paris, France, in “Qui Vive?” 2nd Moscow International Biennale for Young Art , in The First International Caribbean Trienal and in the Bozar Mexico Festival in Belgium. She lives in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato and has work currently on show at the DENVER ART MUSEUM in Denver, CO (until October 2017) She is represented in Mexico by ENRIQUE GUERRERO GALLERY and in Italy by SPAZIO NUOVO. Statement My work analyzes certain aspects that define our human nature, particularly the artificial world we inhabit and the nonsense that it generates. I work with fictional scenarios that are extreme to the point where they become contradictory. My creative process is neurotic, obsessive, full of uncertainties that are solved by the work itself. That’s why I like to be involved in all stages of production, it helps me to stay focused on little things like crocheting a kidney or baking a cake while I work out an idea. Photography allows me to capture the final product of this process. In recent years I’ve integrated knitted and crocheted objects into my work. Originally I used them to represent a variety of subjects: the creation of a safe place, creativity at its most basic form, an obsession channeled in an attempt to preserve mental health or a creation that destroys and consumes it’s creator, like Frankenstein’s monster. Now I consider it a versatile medium that allows me to make soft, absurd representations of almost anything. I think of these objects, which are clearly artificial, as a simple form of hand-made fiction. I like to work in the in-betweens, in that place between certainty and uncertainty, between what is real and what is imagined, the place where concepts swivel and contradict themselves, where opposites meet to complete their cycle.
