Pintar Meninas es un llamado muy arraigado en mi alma. Ellas me llevan por un recorrido a través del tiempo y me hacen sentir parte de la cadena del universo. A medida que voy pintando cada Menina cobra vida y su propia personalidad emerge sobre el lienzo, marcando una huella indeleble que perpetua el legado del mensaje infinito de Velázquez. Painting Meninas is a deep call within my soul. They have the power to carry me through time where I feel part of weave of the Universal chain. As I begin painting each Menina adopts her personality and comes alive on the canvas leaving thus, an indelible imprint that perpetuates Velazquez’s legacy and its infinite message. The idea of bringing such an iconic image from the past into the present and further it as a legacy into the future is a deep quest of mine. It is a link that joins and transcends through time. The language of color, texture, form and a very Spanish traditional figure is my way to communicate passionately about my deep roots in Spain. Though I have expanded and painted various other themes and have delved into developing a new series of faces, my heart soars as yet another Menina finds its way to the canvas, and I can only give it the light it needs to shine through.
