Descripción del Artista
Claudia Melli uses glass for her recent production as a medium for her delicate poetics of attention, on the boundaries of drawing, painting, and photography. The artist confronts the limits of perception by dismantling the procedures of classical techniques and themes – such as landscape – to construct scenes full of absence, emptied of time. Her work also discusses photographic practices such as framing and light, as well as the issue of image authenticity.
Her solo show at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, in 2015, gathered a synthesis of her artistic trajectory showcasing five different series of works, selected by the curator Luiz Camillo Osorio.
In 2009 she exhibited works in the group show Três Atos, Três Artistas, and, in the following years, Galeria Eduardo Fernandes also presented her solo exhibitions: Tudo na vida é um país estrangeiro, in 2011; E aqueles que foram vistos dançando foram julgados insanos por aqueles que não podiam escutar a música in 2015; and Revoadas in 2018.
Her works have been exhibited in Rio de Janeiro in various institutions, museums, and galleries, such as Centro Cultural Correios, Casa França Brasil, Museu da República, Parque Lage, and Galeria Durex. Her works are part of collections such as those of Banco Espírito Santo, Brazil Golden Art-BGA Fund, H. Martins and F. Feitosa, and the Gilberto Chateaubriand Collection of the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro.
Claudia Melli consolidated her formal art education during the 1990s through various programs offered by the Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro, attending drawing, painting, engraving, and art theory classes. Among her mentors are Luiz Ernesto, Fernando Cochiarale, Charles Watson, and Malu Fatorelli.
