Descripción del Artista
Cela Luz was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1986. She lived in New York from 2015 to 2019, where she received an MFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in 2017. Cela currently lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. In 2019, she opened her solo exhibition “Let the wind blow” at Mercedes Viegas Gallery and “Pinturinhas” curated by Raul Mourão at Rato Branko, both of them in Rio de Janeiro.
In her work, Cela seeks associations between landscapes and attributes of the oil paint, like materiality and density. Her way of exploring textures, transparencies, and layers, is the result of constant observation between these atmospheres. Color, movement, and a feeling of spontaneity and strangeness permeate all her work.
Cela participated in group exhibitions such as 'Cognitive Dissidence', curated by Dan Cameron, at Ray Smith Studio (New York, US, 2017); 'Transfiguration', curated by Carl Auge, at SVA Flatiron Gallery, NY; ‘Fragments of a pictorial discourse’, curated by Mario Gioia, at Galeria Roberto Alban (Salvador, Brazil, 2017); ‘Shares, Presences, Projects”, curated by Mario Gioia, at Galeria Blau (São Paulo, Brazil, 2017); ’The Context of the Line’, at Mercedes Viegas Gallery (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2018); ‘The Head is Round’, curated by Gisela Gueiros, at Lazy Susan Gallery, (New York, US, 2018); 'Elas por Elas', at Mercedes Viegas Gallery (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2019);
