Descripción del Artista
Born in Lisbon in 1969, Carlos Roque lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He undertook a degree in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (1994) and he attended a Photography Course at Instituto Português de Fotografia (1988). In 2004 he won a Scolarship from Calouste Gulbenkian foundation and Luso-American Foundation, ISCP (International Studio and Curatorial Program) in New York (USA) and in 2001 he participated in an Artistic Residency at Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris. In the same year, Carlos Roque won the “Visual Arts Prize” from I.P. Foundation.
In the last years, he has participated in a great number of group exhibitions, from which we can highlight “GERMINAL. The Cabrita Reis Collection”, Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), Lisbon (2018); “Lá Fora”, EDP Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal; “50 Years of Portuguese Art”, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal (2007).
He has participated on several curatorial projects in New York and Lisbon; and music has been a very important part of his practice (he is one of the members of the Portuguese plastic/musical group “Tone Scientists”).
Carlos Roque’s work is represented in public and private collections, such as Centro de Arte Moderna - José de Azevedo Perdigão, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon; Serralves Contemporary Art Museum, Serralves Foundation, Porto (as Tone Scientists); Pedro Cabrita Reis Art Collection, Lisbon; PLMJ Foundation Art Collection, Lisbon; Ilídio Pinto Foundation Collection.
