Descripción del Artista

Ato Ribeiro (b. 1989) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but spent the formative years of his life in Accra, Ghana. He received his B.A. from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and has worked in a variety of media, including sculpture, instillation art, drawing and printmaking. His work has been exhibited at venues such as the Nubuke Foundation (Accra, Ghana), ABSA Gallery (Johannesburg, South Africa), the Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Headquarters (Farmington Hills, Michigan), The Ink Shop (Ithaca, New York), Agnes Scott College Dalton Gallery (Atlanta, Georgia), and most recently at the Cranbrook Art Museum (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan), The Carr Center (Detroit, Michigan), Detroit Artist Market Gallery (Detroit, Michigan), the N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art (Detroit, Michigan), the Next Step Studios and Gallery (Ferndale, Michigan) and Anastasia Tinari Projects (Chicago, Illinois). Ribeiro completed his M.F.A. in Print Media from Cranbrook Academy of Art and was recently a 2017 Summer Fellow at the Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuck, Michigan. He was also awarded the 2017 Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Emerging Artist Award and served as an Artist in Residence at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Germany. He concluded a solo show entitled Home Coming at the Anastasia Tinari Projects in Chicago, IL and showed at the Art Miami fair with Lisa Sette Gallery. He is expected to be a part of two group shows at both of these galleries in the near future.
