Asher Remy-Toledo is a Colombian-American producer of art and cultural events. Based in New York, he directs Hyphen Hub, a non-profit organization that discovers, promotes, and presents new live works and exhibitions by artists that integrate art and technology.
Hyphen Hub is a New York-based non-profit organization that explores, promotes, and presents radical new visions of the future through the integration of art and emerging technologies. It produces innovative live performances, large and small scale installations, and immersive experiences where art and technology collide. Its global community ranges from cyborgs and audiovisual artists to creators of large scale immersive works, as well as leading curators, producers, entrepreneurs and innovators.
Hyphen Hub partners with tech companies and international organizations with the goal of raising awareness of social and economic issues. It also organizes salons that showcase leading thinkers and practitioners in the worlds of science, art, design, innovation, and technology.
Asher co-produced the 1st edition of the Creative Tech Week (creativetechweeknyc.com) a city wide festival celebrating the intersection of new media in the arts & industry.
In 2008 he co-founded No Longer Empty (nolongerempty.org), a New York-based nonprofit group that takes over empty commercial spaces and creates site specific installations. The organization which has a very active educational programming by involving schools and areas of the city that are in economic disadvantage, started in Manhattan where the economic crisis was mostly visible by the over-abundance of empty commercial spaces from 2008-2010. Some of the most seminal exhibitions of the group and in which Remy-Toledo took part as one of the leading curators and organizers, were the one at Tower Records store, the Invisible Dog Factory in Brooklyn, Governors Island, Chelsea Hotel among others.
Remy-Toledo also produced and served as the artistic director of “No Longer Empty on the Road” which was part of the Liverpool Biennial 2010. He partnered with FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool since 2008-2018, collaborating on numerous projects around the world, the most recent are the CERN exhibition " Collide" and "Strata" a science, technology exhibition as part of the Latin American forum CILAC for economy, science and development. Asher also co-founded the Latin American Cultural Week in New York which ran in 2008 and 2009 to showcase contemporary art and music from Latin America. In 2008 he was also the artistic director for Art Miami’s New Media Lounge, a new section devoted to electronic media.
Asher founded and directed the Remy Toledo Gallery from 2004-2007 in New York, producing numerous exhibitions with a strong focus on feminist and post-feminist art, new media, and performance.
