Descripción del Profesional del arte

Andrea Bellini, Director of Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève. Andrea Bellini (b. 1971) has been co-director of Castello di Rivoli, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, since December 2009, where he put on the first European retrospective of John McCracken (2011) and the first large-scale museum show in Italy of Thomas Schütte (2012). For Castello di Rivoli he also curated other projects by Luigi Ontani, Piero Gilardi, Philippe Parreno, and Andro Wekua. At the moment he is curating, together with Dieter Schwarz, a second solo show dedicated to Thomas Schütte at the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco. From 2007 to 2009 he was Director of Artissima, the international fair of contemporary art in Turin. For the 2009 fair he devised and curated a unique project devoted to the relationships between the visual arts and the theatre. Among the artists involved were Pablo Bronstein, Steven Claydon, Guy de Cointet, Cao Fei, Gelitin, Matt Mullican, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Jimmy Raskin, Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan, Erik and Harald Thys, and Tris Vonna-Michell. In 2007 he co-curated a solo exhibition of works by Gino De Dominicis, which was presented at the Contemporary Art Centre of Villa Arson, Nice; at Fondazione Mario Merz in Turin; and at MoMA PS1, New York. Between 2004 and 2007 he was U.S. editor of Flash Art International, and from 2008 to 2009 he was a curatorial advisor to PS1, a MoMA affiliate, New York. He has edited and co-edited several publications, including Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Gallerists But Were Afraid to Ask, JRP|Ringier, Zurich, 2009 and Collecting Contemporary Art, JRP|Ringier, Zurich, 2008. He has also written artists’ monographs and contributed to a wide range of group exhibition catalogues. He has a degree in Philosophy (1990–1996) and a postgraduate Art History degree from the University of Siena (1997–2001). Andrea Bellini said, “CAC in Geneva has a remarkable history, starting in 1974 with Adelina von Fürstenberg, the first director of the Art Centre. I am delighted to have the opportunity to create a new identity for this leading international institution.” Jean Altounian, President of the Foundation Board of the Centre said, “We are delighted to welcome Andrea to the team at CAC Genève. We are very much looking forward to his artistic vision and experience contributing to shaping CAC’s future programme and identity.” Andrea Bellini will move to Geneva and take up the post of Director of CAC in September 2012.
