From 2007 to 2009, Mallen redesigned and constructed "espai cúbic" (English: "cubic space"), an urban sculpture. It consists of nine metallic cubes arranged at an inclined angle. The cubes vary in size and position, with some seeming submerged, others defying gravity on a vertex, and a few appearing to fly on the campus fence. This project, which won first prize in 2001, transformed the James I University Campus entrance.
