2015 Stainless Steel; Bronze; Water
200 x 200 x 450 cm
Designed as a figurehead sculpture for a new building on Edgemont Boulevard in Vancouver, Canada, this sculpture is a tribute to the symbiosis between our urban culture and the natural world that surrounds and supports it. A “fish-bird-mammal” and child mutually protect each other beneath the branches of a shimmering steel tree. Cut into the umbrella, creatures cast silhouettes onto the ground, and in hot weather, the tree emanates micronised water vapour, cooling those who shelter beneath its canopy.
