Descripción del Premio
The Florence Biennale, independent and self-financed contemporary art exhibition, has come to its eleventh edition and will be held in the heart of Florence (Italy), at the Fortezza da Basso, from 6 to 15 October, 2017.
Over the last twenty years this biennial has become a showcase of excellence and a reference model in the contemporary art scene as offering to artists from all over the world an outstanding experience of cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary dialogue.
During each edition an International Jury composed by distinguished personalities in the world of art and culture, confers the ‘Lorenzo il Magnifico’ Award to the best exhibiting artists for each art category which, in the XIth Florence Biennale, includes Drawing & Calligraphy, Painting, Mixed Media, Sculpture, Ceramic Art, Textile & Fiber Art, Jewellery Art, Photography, Digital Art, Video Art, Installation Art, and Performance Art.
Internationally renowned artists will be guests of honor, as happened in previous editions with David Hockey, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Gilbert & George, Marina Abramović, Anish Kapoor and Marta Minujín, who were awarded the ‘Lorenzo il Magnifico’ Lifetime Achievement Award.
The XIth edition will enliven the Medicean city with a rich programme of artistic and cultural activities: aside from the main exhibition, there will be collateral events, performances, workshops, conferences and lectures relating to the theme, eARTh: Creativity & Sustainability.
The artists who are interested in participating in the Florence Biennale have to submit their candidacy for admission to the International Selection Committee (CIS), who will examine their curriculum and proposed artworks.
