Descripción del Premio
Clara Ianni Receives the Werner Fenz Grant for Art in Public Space.
From a total of 142 entries, Ianni was chosen by a committee that brought together, for the first time, the steirischer herbst festival and the City of Graz.
Ianni's proposal, Resurrection, explores the relationship between capitalism and religion, focusing on exhaustion and regeneration. In the current context of political, economic, and ecological calamities, Resurrection seeks to imagine how to live after exhaustion, how to live after the end, how to regenerate, how to resurrect. Through the allegory of Genesis, the project proposes a political and environmental fiction with the aim of expanding our notion of common goods and promoting our imagination of an alternative future. The project involves selecting nature-related theatrical props from various local archives in Bühnen Graz (such as the Oper Graz and the Art Event Theaterservice Graz) and staging a performance using those props during the Steirischer Herbst '24 festival.
The Werner Fenz Art Scholarship was established in 2020 on the initiative of more than two hundred artists, curators, journalists, and other members of the art world to honor art historian and curator Werner Fenz (1944-2016).
