Descripción de la Exposición

Galeria Nara Roesler presents Brígida Baltar's exhibition's 'Voar' (To fly),which will open on February 7th. The Rio de Janeiro born artist, whose show will open the Gallery's 2012 season, will present works with strong dreamlike and theatrical feature that result from her current research, which she began to develop for her individual show at Oi Futuro, in Rio de Janeiro, in July 2011.

The show includes models of theaters made out of wood, which contain, for instance, the traditional theater of shadows. There, shadows perform landing, flying, vertigo and falling positions - theme that is present throughout the exhibition. The Gallery will be occupied by large installations, such as a bronze harp suspended by steel wires that metamorphoses into a bird, and a large free-falling crystal chandelier.

The video 'Voar' is one of the works the artist will present for the first time.It has seven minutes and shows the conductor Valéria Mattos conducting an invisible 16-voice choir at Leopoldo Miguez concert room, at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The original soundtrack was composed by Tim Rescala. In the film 'Voar' (Flying), we see the relation of a dream, a utopia that emerges from the voices of an absent choir, the same that announced and predicted the destiny of the hero in Greek tragedies. Therefore, the word 'flying' is a motto and a mantra, which is repeated, stretched, expanded and compressed beyond the unrecognizable appearance in the composition', explains the critic Marcelo Campos.

This is Brígida Baltar's first individual show in São Paulo since 2007, when she exhibited, at Galeria Nara Roesler, 'Pó de Casa', an expansion of her 2006 show in Colchester, England.

Artist with a 20-year career, Brígida Baltar reveals her poetic sensitivity in works that use simple and essential elements. For example, the house she lived for fifteen years, located in Botafogo neighborhood, south Rio de Janeiro, where she created many of her works. Besides her individual show at OiFuturo, several cities have recently hosted her individual exhibitions, such as Recife, Fortaleza, Florianópolis and Buenos Aires.

She also participated in important projects, such as The Peripatetic School, at Mima/England and several biennials, such as the I Biennial of the Americas in Denver/USA (2010), Bienal do Mercosul, in Porto Alegre (2009), Bienal Internacional de São Paulo (2002), Bienal de Havana (1994). Her works are part of collections, such as the ASU Art Museum (Arizona, USA); Gilberto Chateaubriand Collection, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro; Museu de Arte Moderna Aloísio Magalhães (Recife); Solar do Unhão, Museu de Arte Moderna de Salvador; Centro Dragão do Mar de Arte e Cultura (Fortaleza); Itaú Cultural (São Paulo);Centro Cultural Cândido Mendes (Rio de Janeiro); Museu de Arte Moderna de Brasília; and Instituto Cultural Brasil-Colombia (Bogotá).
