Descripción de la Exposición
Valter Ventura (Lisbon, 1979) has a bachelor’s degree in Art History from the Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon. In 2005, he completed the Advanced Course on Photography by Ar.Co – Centre of Art and Visual Communication – with a scholarship from Banco Espírito Santo. He’s a teacher at the Superior Course of Photography in the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, also cooperating with Ar.Co and the Atelier of Lisbon. Since 2013, he’s been responsible for the photographic documentation at Carpe Diem – Art and Research, Lisbon.
He has been working in projects in which, through an experimentalism which lies between science, wonder and the infinite task, he approaches themes that exploit the language and its relationship with the knowledge of things.
In his first solo exhibition at Kubikgallery, Valter Ventura presents us Cartas do Vazio, Mapas Precedentes, Prospecções, A Pretensão de Ver and Vácuo, a selection of works that belong to the «Compêndio do Nada» series.
In the language, “to be” in a sense of being and in a sense of staying, are terms that confuse us. The most remote questions of philosophy ally personal knowledge (“Who am I?”), with the idea of travelling in a space (“Where do I come from?” and “Where am I going?”). The nothing is scary. We don’t know it, we don’t have words to describe it, we don’t have images to identify it. It is the boarder of what we are and the limit where we are.
