On April 25th, the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle will be inaugurating the exhibition TOGETHER / APART, which emerged as a part of the second edition of Laboratory of the Future - an interdisciplinary, cyclic project from the CCA. At the exhibition, which is undertaking topics on the relationships between the individual and society, there will be an opportunity to see the work of recognized, international artists, such as: Doug Ashford, Jeremy Deller, Suzanne Lacy, Cinthia Marcelle, Mika Rottenberg, Emily Roysdon, Santiago Sierra.

Since November 2012, on every Thursday as a part of the project Laboratory of the Future: TOGETHER / APART, meetings were held along with discussions and artistic interventions aimed at reflecting on the future through a combination of the most important topics, current forecasts and insights in contemporary art, science, politics, as well as social life. The project's experimental and interdisciplinary formulation, which allows the build up of individual meanings and elements, evolved into the exhibition TOGETHER / APART, which will be a continuation of the contemplations concerning the relationships between the individual and society, conducted within the frames of weekly meetings, and at the same time, a comment to the issues discussed and their interpretation in the field of art.

On the one hand, in light of the idea of individualism and neoliberalism, individuals appear to be free, independent and fully responsible for themselves. On the other hand - the public is increasingly seen as an autonomous organism, functioning in accordance with rules relevant to its body, and individuals can only move about within the frames of social principles, political structures and psychological structures. This tension between what is the individual, and that which is social and group, is the subject of investigation for the artists invited to participate in the exhibition. A common question illimunates for them, whether it can be expected, that art can be the initiator of social change. All of them are looking for answers, using their own methods of testing reality and the means of expression.

The exhibition presents the works of: Doug Ashford, pioneer of analysing the forms of participation through abstract art, Santiago Sierra, icon of critical art, Susanne Lacy, focusing on social issues and those related to urban existence, Jeremy Deller, a conceptual artist, often analyzing the group's motif in his work, Cinthia Marcelle, whose artistic interventions bring to reality the elements of minimalist geometry, Mika Rottenberg, examines the relationship between body and space, and Emily Roysdon, whose interdisciplinary work is situated at the intersection of choreography and political action.

On the day of the inauguration, there will be a performance from Weronika Pe?czy?ska, entitled 'RE// MIX: Yvonne, Yvonne', a remix of the work from the American dancer and choreographer, Yvonne Rainer. The exhibition will be accompanied by a special insert in the magazine 'TRANZYSTOR cswzu', edited by Grzegorz Borkowski with texts from Edwin Bendyk, Fabio Cavallucci, Ewa Gorz?dek, Kaya Pawe?ek, and Anna Ptak.
