Descripción de la Exposición

Galería Javier López & Fer Francés is pleased to present the second exhibition held in Gstaad: The Portrait. Portraiture is a fundamental pillar that always reimained relevant due to its significance. For this special occasion, the exhibition brings together five artists and anonymous creatives who take their own approach on the representation of this genre and that have left their own mark on art history. The project explores the evolution, techniques and key movements of portraiture from the Primitive Art of the African masks, to the mid century aesthetic of Alex Katz to the Post-Modern paintings of Phil Frost. While each approach is distinctly unique and different mediums are used, it is possible to see many commonalities and influences. From the Expressionist techniques and subconscious point of Francesco Clemente and Phil Frost (and his painstaking multilayer techniques) to the external inspiration of Katz and Salle with their flat quick approach to painting. Artists: Nobuyoshi Araki, Francesco Clemente, Phil Frost, Alex Katz, David Salle, and African masks.
