The Blankets Program #5 - Juliana Herrero Opening & Artist talk: Ruth Horak with Juliana Herrero 18:30, 25th Sept, 2018 Medospace - Franzensgasse 6/1a, 1050 Wien Curator: Jianan Qu Juliana Herrero was born in 1975 in Choele Choel, RN, Argentina and after moving many times in the extended Patagonia she studied dance and music at INSA in General Roca. She graduated from architecture at UBA, University of Buenos Aires. 2001 she moved from Argentina to Europe, completing in 2004 her postgraduate studies in conceptual design by Ben van Berkel, at STÄDELSCHULE joining then also there the film class led by Mark Leckey. Between 2013 and 2015 she was local artist of the Viennese studio and residence program “studio das weisse haus”. Herrero was awarded in context of the Outstanding Artists Awards – Interdisciplinarity a prize for Exceptional Achievement – Prämie für die besondere Leistungen- BKA Austria and the Premio Fundación Andreani a las Artes visuales (3rd Prize-Revelación) for her work Milieu in 2015. Her oeuvre has since been part of the collection Fundación Andreani, Buenos Aires, Argentina. In her emancipatory pieces, Juliana Herrero contrasts visual impressions with sound spaces. With her interventions, she is probing the boundaries of provocation, concentrated perception, and the utopian, leaving open space for the imagination. She focusses on processes of change at the limits of inside and outside worlds and its osmotic boundaries. Juliana Herrero lives and works in Vienna.
