Vigil Gonzales is pleased to present S"omos la noche y el día" solo show by Peruvian- New York City based artist C.J. Chueca. The artist proposes, through a new set of work, a re-reading of the notion of travelling: physically and metaphorically. The artist uses this as a trigger for a series of concepts in which she develops through different mediums such as paintings, ceramics and sculptural installations.
Certainly C.J. Chueca (Lima, 1977) is a recognized artist well regarded within the international circuit having had several solo and group shows in museums and exhibition venues. Among her solo exhibitions highlights include Dos Cielos Azules, Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano, Lima (2018); I am the river behind the Wall, Mulherin Gallery, Toronto (2018); Illuminations of Angie: Someone there is that doesn’t love a Wall, Y Gallery, New York (2016). Furthermore C.J. Chueca has been a part of group shows in New York, Istanbul, Toronto, Vienna and Lima, highlighting her participation in Crónicas Migrantes: Historias comunes entre Perú y Venezuela, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima (2019); Soy la Casa que Ladra, Ramón Lujan 78, Madrid (2019); Creatures, Olsen Gruin Gallery, New York (2019); This one is smaller than this one, Galerist, Istanbul (2016); Practice makes practice, Mulherin Gallery NY, New York (2016); Polivalencias, Galería Lucía de la Puente (2015). During 2020, the artist will start a project together with the Department of Cultural Affairs Percent for Art Program of New York City, this will include the development of public art work to be placed within the city.
