Descripción de la Exposición
Artists have often deformed and changed the characteristics (or proportions) of objects, thus reversing the interpretation of their meanings and undermining the relationship between spectator and work. Rómulo´s artistic work follows this path that origins from the principle of changing what is tangible. He finds his objects in his daily private and professional life. In addition to sculptures, Celdrán works with painting and drawing.
"Reality does not exist," Rómulo Celdrán aims to deconstruct our perception process through his hyper-realistic drawings and sculptures of everyday things that show that reality, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. "If what exists is defined by the perception we have of it, why not explore the underlying principles of this perception?" In line with Claes Oldenburg, his exploration takes shape of microscopically observed objects, magnified to spectacular scale. He works in both bi- and three-dimension on a continuous series of monochromatic drawings entitled "Zoom", related to his series of mixed media sculptures, "Macro." Celdrán does not miss a single infinite detail in his re-creations: his drawing of pencil shavings reveals the fine-grained texture of the wood, while his sculpture of a bottle cap contains a dust of rust.
The macro series should be viewed as a camera lens that alters the scale of the objects radically. This way, the works come to function as a magnifying glass that takes us closer to the object and gives it new dimensions, enhances its presence and urges us to explore. The laws of physics that govern our logic are broken down, and it is precisely this way of questioning reality that makes Rómulo thrive best as an artist. He creates facets of possible worlds that, even delimited by tangible boundaries, are bound to an alienating reality.
