Descripción de la Exposición
Legend has it that a sunray appeared to indicate the place to commemorate the summer solstice in a southern region, in the middle of the Caribbean, and manifested the perpetual sanctuary to celebrate the festive cycle.
A sunray so precise that it cut the vertical cave in two and left no room for doubt that for only a few minutes, the universe could commune with its inhabitants and everything in between.
Because of their complicity, today we can reconnect with the intact surfaces and charcoal lines speaking through cosmic realms. In Leandro Pesante’s 2021 wall sculpture El Hombre Celeste (The Celestial Man), he explores these portals of suspended time, but in his case, from the Andean soil, opening the door for a cross-cultural conversation on Latine futurity.
As the exhibition unfurls across acts of conjuring new worlds and pre-Columbian rituals surrounding the summer solstice, an element of dissidence through voracious mark-making and reclaimed objects emerges, bringing chaos as a strategy to reclaim autonomy.
