Descripción del Premio

Launched in 2017 and dedicated to the Disegni section, the Refresh Prize sponsored by Irinox celebrates the artist who most vividly conveys the expressive immediacy of drawing in a contemporary way. The international jury – composed of Simon Castets, director, Swiss Institute, New York, Krist Gruijthuijsen, director, KW Berlin Institute of Contemporary Art, Berlin, Oleg G. Slyngstadli, director, Oslo Biennale – awarded Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe, presented by ABRA, Caracas with the following motivation: The jury unanimously decided to award the Venezuelan artist Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe for his outstanding presentation. The unique language of Hakihiiwe’s drawings calls upon native Amazonian symbolism in its most elemental form, conveying the essence of abstraction in natural forms.
