Descripción de la Exposición ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Jorge de León (Guatemala City, 1976) grew up in some of the toughest areas of Guatemala City. He started off his art practice as a tattoo artist for a gang which he was a part of in his teen years. He later went on to graduate from the National School for the Arts in Guatemala, and has since then exhibited in numerous shows in Europe, Latin America, and the United States. -------------- Juan Brenner (Guatemala City, 1977) is photographer, art director and co-founder of Proyectos Ultravioleta. His work has been exhibited internationally in shows in countries such as Mexico, Belgium, Japan, Italy, Sweden, Guatemala, Colombia, and Australia. Additionally, his work has been published in many fashion publications that include Nylon, People, Oyster, Vogue and Anthem, amongst others. -------------- Byron Mármol (Guatemala City, 1984) is an artist, musician, and co-founder of Proyectos Ultravioleta. In his artworks he shifts from mediums that include photography, video, audio and performance. He has participated in multiple exhibitions in Europe, Latin America and the United States. -------------- Alberto Rodríguez (Guatemala City, 1985) graduated as printmaker and stampmaker from Escuela de Arte Número 10 in Madrid. He received an honorific mention in the Aurelio Blanco Prize in Madrid and was co-founder of El Taller Experimental de Gráfica de Guatemala. He has participated in various exhibitions in Guatemala and abroad. He is the founder and director of the Cinematic Center of the Centro Cultural de España in Guatemala. -------------- Jessica Kairé (Guatemala, 1980) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her work has been exhibited in various places such as Museo del Barrio (NY), DUMBO Arts Festival (Brooklyn), Proyectos Ultravioleta (Guatemala City), 9.99 (Guatemala City), Proyectos Sauna (Bogotá), Diablo Rosso (Panama City), Centro de Formación de la Cooperación Española (Antigua), Museo de Arte Moderno (Guatemala City) and Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo (San José). She is the co-founder of El Nuevo Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Guatemala - NuMu-. -------------- Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa (Guatemala City, 1978) works in performance, installation, painting and video. His work has been widely exhibited in multiple shows in North and South America, Europe and the Middle East. He has participated in various art residences that include Akademie Schloss Solitude and Banff. He was recently awarded the 2012 Guggenheim Fellowship. -------------- Radamés 'Juni' Figueroa (San Juan, 1982) lives and works in the Carribean, from where he constructs systems that evoke and celebrate the tropics' life, climate, flora, fauna, and music. He has participated in multiple group shows in Latin America, the United States and Europe. He is the founder/director of La Loseta in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and was the co-curator the the 1st Tropical Biennale with Pablo León de la Barra. -------------- Buró de Intervenciones Públicas The Buró de Intervenciones Públicas (Bureau of Public Interventions, BIP) is a collaborative project by Stefan Benchoam and Christian Ochaita that originated as a direct response to the lack of public spaces and infrastructures for recreation and socialization in Guatemala City, Guatemala, in 2007. Their projects encourage the use of public spaces through playful elements and unusual occurrences, and are developed through their collaboration with other artists, collectives and people in general. They have exhibited in multiple international exhibitions which include their recent participation in the 3ra Trienal Poligráfica de Puerto Rico y el Caribe, where they hung 100+ hammocks through San Juan. -------------- Stefan Benchoam (Guatemala City, 1983) is an artist, curator and cultural producer. He is the co-founder of Proyectos Ultravioleta, Suelta, El Nuevo Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Guatemala -NuMu-, and Buró de Intervenciones Públicas. In 2011 he had a solo show in the White Cubicle Toilet Gallery (London) and La Loseta (San Juan). He's participated in various group shows including the 1st Tropical Biennale in 2011.
