Descripción del Premio
The 9th edition of the COMEL Vanna Migliorin Contemporary Art Award, the international competition that promotes the aesthetic use of aluminium, is kicking off these days.
At each edition, European artists aged 18 and over are invited to get involved by creating artworks in aluminium respecting a specific theme that underlines one of the characteristics of this surprising metal.
The theme of the ninth edition, Endless Aluminium, emphasizes the ability of this metal to be completely recycled countless times, without ever losing any of its characteristics. This property of aluminium not only makes it an eco-sustainable material (recycling aluminium is less expensive than extracting it again), but also opens up infinite possibilities, countless uses, endless lives to this metal. Fire melts it, cancels its previous existence and prepares it for its rebirth. With aluminium, this process can be repeated indefinitely in a virtuous circle harbinger of new opportunities, new paths, new beginnings. Endless Aluminum, therefore, symbolizes the possibility of starting over, of rethinking entire existences, of leaving behind what was before to start a new path.
In these difficult years, the theme of this 9th edition is intended to be a good omen, a positive and hopeful message to be spread through Art and Beauty.
Participation in the competition is free, works of art such as painting, sculpture, design, photography, and installation may participate as long as they have aluminium as their main element and respect the proposed theme. At the close of the call, on June 21st, a jury of experts will select 13 finalists and their artworks will be exhibited in Latina at the COMEL contemporary art space in October. Among the 13 finalists, a winner will be chosen who will receive a cash prize of 3500 euros and will be the protagonist of a personal solo exhibition with a dedicated catalog.
