"Postcards From The Edge: Posters And Artwork Of The NYC Punk Scene" includes many original flyers and posters from the 1970's to the present. The vibrant, original artwork in the show represents each artist's personal experiences and reflections of the stalwart NYC punk scene, from its’ heyday to still-surviving present. Mediums such as painting, photography, posters and album cover art, artistic fliers, and mixed media work with punk motifs and/or memorabilia will be shown.
The show is being co-curated by Martina Secondo Russo (Artist/MF Gallery Owner) Daniella aka Our Lady of Perpetual PMS, (Artist/GLOB founder/Museum Manager) and Xtene Kucinskis. (Artist/Skum City member) Artists in the show include: John Holmstrom, (Punk Magazine) John John Jesse, (Nausea – NYC) Niagara, (Destroy All Monsters) Sean Pierce, (Toilet Boys) Joe Simko, (Garbage Pail Kids) Gary Gilmore, (Wrongway Flyers) Fernando Carpaneda, Sean Taggart, John Carruthers, Fly, Geraud aka Geka, Javier Medina, Michael Lee Nirenberg, Martina Secondo Russo, Daniella aka Our Lady of Perpetual PMS, and more to come…
The opening of this dynamic show will be on Saturday October 1st, from 7 to 10pm, and the opening night party will feature inspiring performances by GLOB-Gorgeous Ladies of Bloodwrestling, (Live lady warriors that wrestle in fake blood to punk rock.) and by two NYC bands: Skum City (Ear breaking, dirty, loud, fast, crazy punk.) and Pussywolf (All girl rock band playing dirty, nasty, riff-heavy music.) Admission will be free for participating artists. There will be a $10 suggested donation for guests. Refreshments will also be available for a small donation.
MF Gallery is located at 213 Bond Street, between Baltic and Butler Streets in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn. Take the F or G to Bergen St., the A or C to Hoyt/ Schermerhorn, or the R to Union.
After opening night, the show will be open by appointment until October 16th. The artwork can also be viewed and purchased online at: www.MFgallery.net
