Descripción de la Exposición

This year we are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair! Since day one, the birth of the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair in 2014, our art fair has grown to become a well known factor in the international art scene. It has always offered a platform for collectors, gallery owners and art lovers. This year we will again take place within the framework of the Berlin Art Week, which spans our already varied program of talks, award ceremonies, special exhibitions and evening events into a Berlin-wide artful event network. Today, we are very pleased to draw your attention to the gallery line-up and the first highlights of our special anniversary edition. And yes, it turns out, POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair continues to grow: a total of 100 galleries from 20 countries will occupy hangars 5 - 6 of Tempelhof Aiport. We are happy about our international newcomers: CAM Galeria (Mexico-City), Galería Enrique Guerrero (Mexico-City), Lagos (Mexico-City), Proyectos Monclova (Mexico-City), HOS Gallery (Warsaw), Galerie Sechzig (Feldkirch), The Chemistry Gallery (Prague), East African Art Endeavor Gallery (Szczecin), Post Modern Collection (Amstelveen), Shukado+Scena (Tokyo), ThisWeekendRoom (Seoul) and Galeria W Przyziemiu (Krakow). First Highlights Pools, tiles, clarity, bungalow, diving board, water moving like worms - there can only be talk of David Hockney. Galerie Brusberg brings extremely rare Hockney editions from the late 1970s/early 1980s to the hangars of Flughafen Tempelhof. The cool water floats in tiny threads across the fine grid of the angular pool, the shadow of the diving board bends into the depths at the edge of the pool. Hockney's strokes seem fleeting and delicate, the green of the meadow and the blue of the water mild. Pure, as he is known - and loved by all. Marlen Letetzki's world is really creamy. Pastel tones predominate, pink tubes curl around a pink donut. The beige shape, which floats in front of a dark wiped surface, is reminiscent of a smoothly chewed piece of gum. A stone has no points or edges; a metallic shape seems almost snake-like. Letetzki's themes are textures, bodies, surfaces, space and materiality. A curtain hangs down so stiffly and perfectly flowing that it might as well be pink corrugated metal. In her works, shiny meets matte, heavy meets weightless, sticky meets soft, deep meets shallow, and viscous meets solid. Surfaces and forms exist independently of each other and yet always enter into a connection, so that a special, almost incomprehensibly captivating harmony is created - in the coexistence of opposing states. To be seen at the booth of FeldnerWiesnerRudolph from Berlin. The light is switched on and falls unnaturally on the faces. A shadow draws its straight lines on the wall. Jinhee Kim's figures seem to move on a stage, so surreal and illuminated do the scenes appear. But the artist rather focuses on the curious, small situations of everyday life, on which a spotlight is rarely directed. You can see a person standing up awkwardly from a cinema seat, his gaze wandering searchingly around the room or people sitting, looking, staring, waiting, actually doing nothing. They all look very similar, seem to have the same hairdresser. There is nothing going on at all, and yet a great deal. The images glow, have an intense dramatic color, the contours are sharp-edged, surfaces monochrome, almost seem cut out or even digital. To be seen at ThisWeekendRoom from Seoul. Buildings, industry, housing, cultural and family roots and the human being itself, are at the center of the works of Mexican artist Néstor Jiménez. His figures are painted in brilliant blood red. They squirm and their exploited bodies bend or bathe. Violent scenes tell of power imbalances, the red of the socialist idea that shaped the country, especially the Mexican peripheries. Jiménez critically examines and reflects on his surroundings, the structures in the country, its cultural goods, beauty and weak points. On view at Proyectos Monclova's exhibition booth, Mexico-City. Mexico-City X POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair 2023 For the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Berlin and Mexico-City, selected Mexican galleries will be a focal point, these are Galería Enrique Guerrero, CAM Galeria, Lagos, Proyectos Monclova, all from Mexico-City.
