Descripción de la Exposición

Can we retrace a year of Pablo Picasso's life? The exhibition "Picasso 1932," organized in partnership with the Tate Modern in London, makes that bet. Structured chronologically, it invites the visitor to follow Picasso’s crafting of works in a particularly rich year. It will question the artist's famous quotation, "The work that one does is a way of keeping his journal," which implies that there is a connection between life and creation. Among the milestones of this exceptional year are the series of bathers and the colorful portraits and compositions of Marie-Thérèse Walter, all of which contain elements of surrealism. In parallel with these sensual and erotic works, the artist returns to the theme of the Crucifixion. Brassaï created a photographic reportage in his workshop of Boisgeloup in December. 1932 also saw the "museification" of Picasso's work through the organization of retrospectives at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris and at the Kunsthaus in Zurich, which, for the first time since 1911, exhibited the Spanish painter to the critics and the public. The year finally marked the publication of the first volume of the Catalogue raisonné of the work of Pablo Picasso, published by Christian Zervos, which places the author of the Demoiselles d'Avignon in an exploration of his own work. The first exhibition dedicated to the work of an artist from 1 January to 31 December, it will feature essential masterpieces in Picasso's career, such as Le Rêve (oil on canvas, private collection) and numerous archival documents that place the creations of this year in their context.
