Descripción de la Exposición
The exhibition, carefully curated from among more than forty paintings by Pedro Pablo Oliva (b. Pinar del Río, Cuba, 1949). This private collection was acquired in the beginning of this century by his compatriot, classmate, collector and friend Lorenzo Musa (Pinar del Río, Cuba. 1949 – Miami, 2019). Now on sale, it allows us to access a significant parcel of the work completed by the master during his brief exaltation into an especially prolific five years (1999-2004). These period was marked by an exceptional execution, both in quantity and quality. It also helps us to further perceive how unique are the links, which activate and keep the bonds between an artist and an equally unique collection.
Conserved intact for two decades, with the jealousy and affection with which one guards a true treasure, these pieces, whether drawings, paintings, or sculptures, reveal an intimate Oliva. Especially playful and lucid, in a period of total synthesis where motives, techniques, and prior themes crystallize, meet, and fuse, serving as a bridge for what was to come.
In these images the echoes from the powerful “Black Series” of the 90s, with their somber premonitions of human nature, society, and the time of the artist, still resonate, like they will once again a few years later with greater force. During this brief interlude in Oliva’s visions, one will be able to see an assuredly brighter side, through more gentle ranges and dimmer strokes, although sometimes disconcerting with its mirages and usual ambivalence.
The comprehensive exhibition that opened on January 24th has been extended until Tuesday, March 31st.
