Production and exhibition residency for artists

Ha.aH art space invites international artists to apply for our March 2025 residency program centered around the theme Urbanism: Layers of a City.
Located in the heart of Barcelona, Ha.aH provides a space for immersive exploration, creation, and dialogue. This residency is designed for artists who wish to investigate the complexities of urban environments, their histories, transformations, and social dynamics. Through research, production, and exhibition, selected artists will engage with the urban fabric of Barcelona and present their work to the local community.

Barcelona, A City Of Layers
Barcelona offers an unparalleled backdrop for urban inquiry. Its vibrant streets, historic architecture, and dynamic sociocultural context provide fertile ground for artists to explore themes such as urban identity, migration, sustainability, and community spaces. Ha.aH, situated near the iconic Palau de la Música Catalana, is a 350m² hub for artistic innovation, collaboration, and exhibition.
Ha.aH Art Space
- Exhibition Space: 180m² with video projection capabilities.
- Work Space: 50m² with shared tools, tables, and chairs.
- Meeting Room: 20m² private area.
- Amenities: Kitchen, bathrooms, framing tools and art storage.
All facilities are located within Ha.aH’s main space in Ciutat Vella.
Program Focus
Our goal is to advance the selected artists’ professional development by offering a supportive space for creative exploration. Up to 8 artists in residence will produce their work over 1 month, culminating with a collective exhibition. Participants are encouraged to engage with local art professionals, propose talks and workshops, and delve into Barcelona's rich socio-cultural environment.
The March residency is dedicated to artistic exploration of urbanism. Artists are encouraged to delve into topics such as:
- The interplay between architecture and community.
- The impact of urbanization on identity and environment.
- Historical and contemporary transformations of public spaces.
- Innovative visions for sustainable urban futures.

Residency Highlights
Duration: March 3–28, 2025.
Collective Exhibition: Present your work at a gallery in Barcelona.
Workspace: Access to Ha.aH’s 350m² facilities, including exhibition and meeting spaces.
Support: Portfolio reviews and curatorial guidance for project development.
Community Engagement: Opportunities to connect with local artists, architects, and urban planners.
Activities: Seminars, studio visits, gallery tours and presentations.
What You’ll Receive

Program Cost
1000 EUR per participant. Each artist is responsible for airfare to and from Barcelona, accommodation, meals, and other personal expenses. Invitation letters will be provided for those seeking external funding.
*We are an independent art space with no sponsors or donors. At this time we are unable to offer any scholarships or art grants. If you are selected, we can assist you in the process of applying for funding from your art council or other external organizations.
Eligibility
Up to six local and international artists will be selected to participate in the program. Individual artists or groups may apply. Applicants must be over eighteen years old and able to present a body of work in any contemporary art discipline.
Application Guidelines
Interested artists should submit a single PDF including:
1. Project Proposal:
- Brief summary of your project and its connection to the theme Transitions.
- Timeframe and space/material requirements.
- Reference images (optional).
2. Work Portfolio: CV and images/videos of past work.
3. Scanned Passport: Expiration date must be at least three months after the residency.

Resident Commitments
Selected residents must:
- Confirm participation within five (5) business days of acceptance.
- Sign an agreement outlining residency terms.
- Obtain necessary travel documents (e.g., visa) and proof of medical insurance.
- Develop and present their project during the residency.
- Share limited rights for promotional use of residency works and personal accounts.
