Descripción de la Exposición

Durban Segnini Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition Andrés Arzuaga: One Thousand Days of Light, the first major solo exhibition in the United States by Argentine artist Andrés Arzuaga, curated by Carlos Gutiérrez. One Thousand Days of Light brings together a new body of work by Andrés Arzuaga that challenges and transcends traditional perceptions of time, space, and materiality. Curator Carlos Gutiérrez describes Arzuaga's paintings as "enveloped in a pause that dissolves points of departure and arrival, making it impossible to trace the paths of that which appears on their surface," creating a captivating interplay of color and form. Each piece encapsulates moments that simultaneously emerge and dissolve, carefully balanced on edges that are precise yet fluid. Utilizing diverse mediums—oil, resin, and other pigmented materials— Arzuaga vividly embodies complex sensory experiences such as early morning plains, the nuanced coloration of resting birds, or the ephemeral touch of distant light upon the skin. Central to Arzuaga's work is the exploration of empty space, defined not by absence but as a latent generative force, fostering the growth of forms and meanings. Gutiérrez emphasizes that this "empty space functions as a force that holds everything together in a way that remains legible," creating a dynamic experience for viewers who find themselves drawn into the depth and outward projection of each painting. In this exhibition, Arzuaga skillfully employs geometrization and color to suggest displacements, creating compositions that resonate both with strangeness and familiarity. These elements invite a slow and attentive engagement from the viewer, uncovering carefully constructed spaces filled with subtle echoes and powerful sensory stimuli. As curator Carlos Gutiérrez writes in his accompanying essay: "Arzuaga’s paintings are assemblages of particles of experience, clustering to give rise to a vision always in progress and open to transformation. Multitudes of photons impact on the skin, generating imperceptible cuts from which new perspectives of the world emerge." About the Artist Born in 1984 in Los Toldos, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Andrés Arzuaga completed his visual art professor studies between 2003 and 2008 in Junín (Instituto Xul Solar) and Pehuajó (Instituto Carlos Torrallardona). In 2010 he moved to Buenos Aires to continue his artistic training. He was selected by the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella to further his art development studies under the mentorship of the artist Eduardo Stupía. He continued his studies by working alongside internationally recognized Argentine artists such as Eduardo Hoffmann, Marta Minujín, Alicia Herrero, Fabián Burgos, and Marcolina Dipierro. In 2013, his work was selected by the Saloń de Artes Plaśticas Manuel Belgrano and in 2016 he was awarded the Premio Federico Jorge Klemm. His works have been acquired by international art collectors and prestigious art institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (Houston, Texas, 2022) and by Espacio 23 (Miami, Florida, 2023).
