Descripción de la Exposición
what connects us is presented not as a finished product or display but as a continuing process of growth and transformation.
Paris conceives of the exhibition as a classroom, a place of learning where there are no teachers or students, only co-participants. In this classroom, we learn from those around us, not just people but all things, animate and inanimate. This requires us to be aware: to watch, listen and feel, to open our senses, to pay attention to our surroundings. As we move through the exhibition, subtle networks of relations and connections emerge, forcing us to think more broadly about our relationship to nature, and to each other.
In this spirit, the gallery becomes a platform for public conversations, workshops and events developed by the artist in close collaboration with the Education Team and curator. For details on the associated activities, please visit this website's event page, or pick up an information sheet in the gallery.
Nicolás Paris is the 2019 Govett-Brewster Art Gallery Aotearoa New Zealand Artist in Residence. The residency is supported by Creative New Zealand Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa.
The artist has conceived a series of public programmes, educational projects and collaborative workshops both within and outside the Gallery that will be updated throughout the exhibition. See our events pages on this website for further details.
