Descripción de la Exposición Hardcore Art Contemporary Space is pleased to launch our new space with an exhibition of new work by Natasha Duwin, titled Marvelous Punishment. [paragraph on the new space 'moving forward for HACS'] The body of work presented in Marvelous Punishment makes explicit some of the themes that have been hinted at in Duwin's previous work, in particular the dichotomy between who we are and where we come from, the longing for a mythical, idealized past that exists only in our imagination, and the recognition and fulfillment of the life that we do make for ourselves ? which is the very marvelous punishment that the exhibition is titled for, with a nod to Tony Hoagland. Natasha Duwin was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has since lived in New York, Tokyo and Miami. In her work, Duwin explores the ideas of female-ness and womanhood, and how to construct a strong female identity without falling into the traps of tradition and expectations. Duwin uses non-traditional materials, such as metals and organic matter, in traditionally 'feminine' techniques, such as weaving and embroidery. She has shown extensively over the last couple of years, is included in several prominent collections, both private and public, and is an Artist-in-Residence at ArtCenter South Florida (800 Lincoln Road, Studio 107, Miami Beach FL 33139). Hardcore Art Contemporary Space opened its doors in Miami in late 2005, taking its name from the exhibition titled 'Hardcore: art towards a new activism', curated by Jerome Sans, curator and former director of Palais de Tokio (2003). HACS presents the work of local and international artists who use innovative and provocative mediums to raise questions about our post-contemporary society. The gallery focuses on projects that touch on current subjects that touch on universal themes, such as genetics, ecological issues, gender, identity, urban, pop culture and global mainstream, among others.
