Descripción de la Exposición
The Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue, Anna Wintour has noted that: "No one but Narciso has ever made a simple line look more stunning." The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University in Miami will follow the simple line, in presenting the first solo museum exhibition of the designer's work, Narciso Rodriguez: An Exercise in Minimalism. The debut couture exhibition at the museum, Narciso Rodriguez will present 50 designs from Rodriguez's lines created under his label.
The designer's crisp colors and clean lines evoke early 20th-century modern paintings, with their crisp, clear, engineered lines that defy their geometry by allowing a woman to move unencumbered through space. Conscious of lines and forms in his work, Rodriguez refers to the natural and built world in his use of pattern, shape, and color. Narciso Rodriguez: An Exercise in Minimalism will explore the designer's influences as well as the inspiration behind his fashion lines, which have evolved over the past 18 years but always maintain a sense of exactitude and precision. Alex Gonzalez, the Creative Director of ELLE Magazine will co-curate the exhibition, in partnership with the Frost's curatorial team.
The exhibition will also include works of art that complement and have inspired Rodriguez and illustrate the close ties that his designs have to the visual arts.
In 1996, Rodriguez received international acclaim when he designed the bias-cut sheath wedding dress that his close friend from his days at Calvin Klein, Carolyn Bessette wore when she married John Kennedy, Jr. On November 4, 2008, Narciso Rodriguez became part of a monumental event in American history when Michelle Obama chose to wear a red and black dress from the designer's Spring 2009 Collection for the President's election night.
While Narciso Rodriguez is widely heralded as a global voice in fashion, it is fitting that the Frost Art Museum in Miami will afford the Cuban-American designer a debut exhibition documenting the origins and evolution of Narciso Rodriguez couture.
